“You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.”
The path I’ve already walked is is what it is. Right up to this very moment there is nothing I can do to change what has already happened. What happens next, however, is my decision.
Each of my trips to 50 places I’ve never been the year I turn 50 is writing that new ending. It’s pushing me and challenging me and connecting me to the world and people in a way I never have.
Trip 20 to Mackinaw Island, MI was a bit nostalgic for me for several reasons.
- First of all, the town feels like a throwback in time.. No cars allowed.
- I ran into a couple I actually met on trip 2 (KeyWest).
- And I was there with a friend from college I hadn’t seen in 30 years! We tried to relive some glory days and hit all the bars on the 8.2 mile island but we didn’t quite make it (which is actually probably a good thing LOL)
Jen and I had a lot of catching up to do.. And we did. We laughed and talked and slipped right back into the ease of being friends as we had done so many years ago. Our conversation reminded me that while dreams sometimes die(or get put on hold), and life takes us on paths we don’t always expect, hope is the magic that keeps us moving forward.
My travels are in limbo for the next few months as winter brings new concerns amid the pandemic making it more difficult… but I’ll keep moving forward just the same. Grateful for the friends God has put in my life that keep me believing.
